Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our city is by giving our time and energy to beautify community areas open to everyone, such as Nifong Park. This year, we are serving in city parks located throughout Columbia, all of which could use a little additional help. When we give our time to projects like this, we are actively seeking the good of our city in a tangible way.

In addition to helping clean up our local parks, we’ll also spend time decorating and planting flower pots to deliver to residents of a nearby assisted living facility. This is a simple but meaningful way to remind an often-overlooked community that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by the church.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working outdoors in this park to:

  • Spread mulch around playground equipment at Nifong Park,
  • Wipe down the equipment, pick up trash, etc. and;
  • Decorate and plant pots to be delivered that day.

What should I bring?

Columbia’s Parks and Recreation will provide all required supplies:

  • Come prepared to work outside; if it’s sunny, we encourage you to bring sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work/garden gloves to help spread mulch. If willing, volunteers may also bring rakes and scoop shovels to spread mulch.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Yes, this is a great family-friendly site where children can easily serve alongside their parents.
