Why are we serving here?
One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our city is by giving our time and energy to beautify community areas open to everyone, such as Alspaugh Park. This year, we are serving in city parks located throughout Columbia, all of which could use a little additional help.
When we give our time to projects like this, we are actively seeking the good of our city in a tangible way.
This park is a well-loved space where people come to hike, walk their dogs, and enjoy the beauty of creation. By removing invasive species like honeysuckle, we’re helping restore and open up the landscape so native plants can thrive, and visitors can experience it more fully.
What can I expect?
ForColumbia volunteers will be working outdoors in this park to:
- Remove invasive honeysuckle and other unwanted plant growth;
- Pick up trash, and;
- Other projects as identified.

What should I bring?
- Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work/garden gloves to help spread mulch. If willing, volunteers may also bring loppers from home to be used.
- Come prepared to work outside; if it’s sunny, we encourage you to bring sunscreen and/or a hat.
- We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
- Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!
Can I serve here with my children?
Yes, this is a great family-friendly site where children can easily serve alongside their parents.
