Why are we serving here?
One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by serving those non-profit organizations who are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center is one of the small non-profits here in Columbia that is making a big impact in the lives of children by providing high-quality, affordable child care and education programs based on the needs of our community. They serve children from six weeks to kindergarten age and their families. This is why we think your day will be well spent serving at the Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center.
What can I expect?
ForColumbia volunteers will be working outside on a variety of projects, including:
- Mulching three large playgrounds;
- Power washing play structures;
- Building sensory tables and sandbox lids;
- Potentially painting the play structures on the main playground, and;
- Other projects as identified.

What should I bring?
- Volunteers should bring work gloves and be prepared to work outside.
- If it’s sunny, we encourage you to bring sunscreen and/or a hat.
- We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
- Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!
Can I serve here with my children?
Yes, this is a family-friendly project within a fenced-in property, and young children are encouraged to serve with their families outside.
