Why are we serving here?
One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our city is by giving our time and energy to beautify community areas open to everyone, such as the Gans Creek Recreation Area. This year, we are serving in city parks located throughout Columbia, all of which could use a little additional help. When we give our time to projects like this, we are actively seeking the good of our city in a tangible way.
At Gans Creek Recreation Area, we have the opportunity to help care for a space that serves people from across the region. By removing invasive honeysuckle and planting trees along the new mountain bike trails, we’re helping restore the land and improve the experience for everyone who uses it.
What can I expect?
ForColumbia volunteers will be working outdoors in this park to:
- Remove invasive honeysuckle and other unwanted plant growth
- Plant trees along the newly developed mountain biking trails

What should I bring?
- Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work/garden gloves to help spread mulch. If willing, volunteers may also bring loppers from home to be used.
- Come prepared to work outside; if it’s sunny, we encourage you to bring sunscreen and/or a hat.
- We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
- Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!
Can I serve here with my children?
Yes, this is a great family-friendly site where children can easily serve alongside their parents.
