Have you heard?
ForColumbia 2023 is coming up in just a couple of days. Two to be exact!
Wait, what? Two? That’s only Friday. ForColumbia is on Saturday, April 29th.
Yes, that’s true.
However, we’re kicking off our day of serving Columbia, side by side, with a Party in the Park.
- Friday, April 28th
- 4:30-6:30 p.m.
- Douglass Park
And we want you to join us!
What is Party in the Park?
A few years ago, we decided to have a kick-off party to give the ForColumbia weekend a big, enthusiastic push as hundreds of volunteers prepared to be together to love our neighbors.
What better way to do that than to invite our neighbors to join us?
Party in the Park was born.
This year, we want you to grab someone you’re serving with and meet us at Douglass Park on Providence Road. We’ll be there with free food from food trucks like Big Daddy’s BBQ, 12 Baskets and Lunchlady, activities for the kids, bounce houses, and a ForColumbia-style dance party.
The “why” behind Party in the Park is two-fold:
1) Serving alongside each other is fun!
We want you to have a night of fun with your friends before we work hard the next day. The Bible has a lot to say about joyful giving and joyful serving (Matthew 20:28; John 15:11; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Gathering with other believers is a joyful way to prepare us all to serve.
Let this night of food and fellowship reinvigorate you for Saturday’s day of serving.
2) Yes, ForColumbia is about completing serving projects, but our primary mission focuses on doing so side by side…and this includes anyone and everyone in our community.
Residents in and around the First Ward are invited to join us for Party in the Park. We want you to get a chance to meet some of the incredible folks we’ve built relationships with over the years.
We want the relationship we start with them on Saturday to carry over to next year’s Party in the Park, and years after that. Get a jumpstart on building those relationships with us on Friday evening.
When you get off work on Friday, or when you feel your stomach start growling, make your way to Douglass Park and look for a sea of ForColumbia T-shirts. That being said, wear yours, too!
If you’re part of a small group or a few people you’re serving with the next day, invite them to come along, too. We can’t wait to see you!
