Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by serving those non-profit organizations that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Over the years, we have also served at many public schools in our community. This year we are excited to serve at Windsor Street Montessori, which is both a non-profit and a school!

This Montessori has served families for 16 years, working with parents and the community to provide an affordable and quality educational program for children of diverse abilities and economic and cultural backgrounds. This non-profit’s mission is to ensure that all children can thrive emotionally, intellectually, socially, and physically while developing a love of learning. This is why we believe your day will be well-spent serving here.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia 2024 Volunteer T-ShirtsForColumbia volunteers will be working outside at this site:

  • adding fresh mulch and sand to a large playground area;
  • power washing and staining the wooden playground equipment;
  • clearing the fence of brush and weeds around the property;
  • landscaping in front of the home;
  • weeding and clearing a large area filled with native plants;
  • hauling away some large items, and;
  • other projects as identified.

What should I bring?

  • Volunteers should bring work/garden gloves and come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • Volunteers should also bring the following common garden tools if you have them:
    • garden or leaf rakes;
    • pruners, loppers and/or hand saws.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!
