Why are we serving here?

One of the rewarding ways in which ForColumbia serves its city is by bringing Christians together to serve other churches that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. St. Paul AME Church is a congregation situated in Columbia’s First Ward and is partnering with ForColumbia for the first time! The congregation reached out asking for books to be donated for some little free libraries they hoped to install, so neighbors in the downtown area could have access to reading material at no cost. Not only are we hoping to donate books, but we’re providing three of these libraries – and installing them as well!

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working outside doing a variety of projects:

  • Painting three little free libraries prior to being installed on the property;
  • Weeding, mulching, and planting in garden beds surrounding the building, and raking leaves around the property;
  • Installing plexiglass covers on the church’s ground-level basement windows to prevent leaves and trash from accumulating;
  • Some potential painting to be done outside, and;
  • Some potential spreading of gravel in the parking lot.
