Why are we serving here?

One of the rewarding ways in which ForColumbia serves its city is by bringing Christians together to serve other churches that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Russell Chapel AME is a small church on Ash Street with a vision of blessing their neighborhood by running a food pantry. This is a small, aging congregation, however, and it does not have the resources to make some necessary property improvements. We believe that when our churches flourish, our city flourishes. This is one reason why we believe your day will be well-spent serving at Russell Chapel.

What can I expect?

2023 ForColumbia Volunteer and Site Leader Shirts

Volunteers here will be working inside pulling up two layers of old tile flooring in the basement of this church, where they run a local food pantry. This work is the first step toward helping this faithful church replace the flooring in this space that is so heavily used.

What should I bring?

  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2023 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

No, this is not an appropriate site for children this year, given the work being done.
