Why are we serving here?

One of the rewarding ways in which ForColumbia serves its city is by bringing Christians together to serve other churches that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Russell Chapel AME is a small church on Ash Street with a vision of blessing their neighborhood by running a food pantry. This is a small, aging congregation, however, and it does not have the resources to make necessary property improvements. We believe that when our churches flourish, our city flourishes. This is one reason why we believe your day will be well-spent serving at Russell Chapel.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia 2024 Volunteer T-ShirtsVolunteers here will be working inside and outdoors at this church’s parsonage, a home maintained for the pastor assigned to serve at this church:

  • laying flooring in the home;
  • painting baseboards;
  • painting the front door and power washing the small front deck;
  • landscaping and general clean-up of the property, and;
  • other projects as identified.

What should I bring?

  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes, and dress appropriately for potential painting.
  • Come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Due to the nature of the work at this site, this is not a kid-friendly site.
