Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by partnering with our city in ways that put us in touch with neighbors facing disabilities or financial instability. This year, in addition to serving inside Paquin Tower, we will also be repairing and painting several large raised bed gardens located in a small park behind this low-income housing high-rise. These gardens are used solely by Paquin residents. When you give your time in this way, you communicate to our neighbors that they are valuable.

What can I expect?

Volunteers will be working outside:

  • Replacing boards on eight large raised bed gardens;
  • Clearing weeds from the gardens as well as the surrounding property;
  • Removing a portion of the existing dirt and adding fresh dirt to each garden;
  • Clearing and planting in several surrounding concrete flower beds, and;
  • Painting the raised bed gardens.

What should I bring?

  • Come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2023 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Because we will be working with power tools and working to get multiple large gardens rebuilt in a single day, we do not encourage this as a family-friendly project.
