Eugene Field Elementary School

Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by working in locations that benefit the entire community, like Columbia Public Schools. We are excited to serve for the first time at Field Elementary School. This particular location is not only used for special programs for children, but CPS has also been using some of this building’s space to provide a clinic for low-income families in the First Ward area. What a great way to expand access to medical services!

Serving at our public schools is one way we can say “thank you” to the teachers and staff who actively work in our children’s lives every day. This is why we think your day will be well spent serving here.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia 2024 Volunteer T-ShirtsVolunteers at this site will be working outside:

  • repairing and prepping several raised bed gardens for Spring planting;
  • repairing and possibly staining multiple benches and a picnic table;
  • mulching and planting flowers at the entrance to the school/clinic, as well as the school sign out front, and;
  • other projects as identified.

What should I bring?

  • Come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat, as well as work/garden gloves.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own garden rakes to spread mulch.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear close-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Yes, this is a family-friendly site!
