Why are we serving here?
One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our city is by giving our time and energy to beautify community areas that are available to everyone to enjoy. This year we are serving in a couple of different community garden areas, including this one located next to Columbia Fire Station #5 off of Ballenger Lane. These gardeners need help prepping their garden areas for this Spring, and we want to come alongside our neighbors who could use an extra hand.
What can I expect?
Volunteers at this project site will be working outside in a community garden:
Tearing down weather-worn raised bed gardens and replacing them with new ones;
- Weeding and prepping garden areas for planting;
- Clearing brush from a nearby area, and;
- Other projects as designated.
What should I bring?
- Please bring any small hand tools for gardening – trowels, spades, etc; If you have a garden shovel or a wheelbarrow, please bring it;
- Come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
- We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
- Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2023 T-shirt!
Can I serve here with my children?
Yes, we encourage families to bring older children who can assist in this project.
