Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by serving those non-profit organizations that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families with various educational activities; this program is one of many offered through Central Missouri Community Action. Staff at local Head Start locations also assist parents with medical and dental care, and provide healthy meals and snacks.

ForColumbia volunteers will be working to clean and refresh the playground and property for the small, hardworking staff who love on the children attending this Head Start program.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia 2024 Volunteer T-ShirtsForColumbia volunteers will be working both inside and outside:

  • power washing the building, playground equipment, and concrete sidewalks;
  • clearing weeds/brush from raised bed gardens in preparation for Spring planting;
  • landscaping around the property;
  • painting railings, poles, and bike track lines on the playground, and potentially a small storage shed;
  • painting multiple rooms inside;
  • mulching the playground, and;
  • other projects as identified.

What should I bring?

  • Volunteers should bring work gloves and be prepared to work outside.
  • If sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat in case you are assigned to the outdoor work.
  • Dress prepared to be involved in painting.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Yes, this is a family-friendly site, but we ask that children not be allowed to paint.
